Some Upcoming Public Events for 2007
I know that many of you ask about cooking classes, but having given hundreds of them in my life, I am now turning my attention to events that are centered on health, children, school lunches, my farmers’ market, and memoir writing around food—even a combination of writing and cooking. I’ll add events to this list as they take shape.
January l8-21: CIA Greystone
I will be taking part in the Worlds of Healthy Flavors Leadership conference put on by the Harvard School of Public Health and the CIA at Greystone, in Napa Valley, California.
January 31, Feb. 1: The National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada
Yes, I will be with the cowboy poets, leading a workshop centered around birthdays. Celebrations are an important part of our lives, and birthdays give us an opportunity to mark the passage of time, share good stories and make our favorite foods, including birthday cakes, so each participant will bring (or make there) a birthday cake, I will make lunch. After all the cakes are presented in a blaze of glory, we will settle in for some cake-talk—memories around this important celebration.
April 22-27: Children, Obesity, Food Choice and the Environment, France
I will be participating in this international meeting sponsored by Field to Plate. This will be held in France’s Loire Valley and will include American and European participants.
Contact: www.fieldtoplate.com for more information.
July 15-19: Simmer, Stir, Season, Write: Exploring Your Life with Words and Foods.
This is the title of the workshop I’ll be leading this summer at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center. It was great fun last year and I look forward to it again this year as well. The workshop consists of writing memoir in the morning and a cooking in the afternoon with an emphasis on intuitive cooking with or without recipes.
